ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS OF THE QURAN

English translations were done for several versions of the Quran books shown. All versions were translated from Classical Arabic into English and other Languages. All are reading differently. ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE KJV

The King James Version (KJV) was translated into English from the following manuscript lines. The Masoretic Text (Hebrew) for the OT and the Byzantine Manuscripts (Greek) for the NT.  The Textus Receptus was a Greek translation used for the NT, and this was based on the Byzantine line.

The Older translation versions were based on Masoretic Text (Hebrew) for the OT and the Byzantine Manuscripts (Greek) for the NT.

The Newer translations are based on the Masoretic Text for the OT and the Alexandrian Manuscripts (minority text) for the NT. Note: listen to these videos about the corrupted Alexandrian Manuscripts – click

Older Translations used the Byzantine Manuscripts

1. Wycliffe Bible (1382, 1395)
Though based primarily on the Latin Vulgate, some later revisions incorporated Byzantine readings indirectly.

2. Tyndale Bible (1526–1535)
William Tyndale’s translation was primarily based on Erasmus’ Greek New Testament (Textus Receptus), which relied heavily on Byzantine manuscripts.

3. Coverdale Bible (1535)
Miles Coverdale used Tyndale’s work, which was derived from the Textus Receptus and thus had Byzantine influences.

4. Matthew’s Bible (1537)
A revision of Tyndale’s work by John Rogers, preserving its Byzantine-based Greek text.

5. Great Bible (1539)
Commissioned by Henry VIII, largely dependent on Tyndale and Coverdale, and thus aligned with the Byzantine tradition.

6. Geneva Bible (1560)
Heavily based on the Textus Receptus, making it a major Byzantine-based English translation before the King James Version.

7. Bishops’ Bible (1568)
Commissioned by the Church of England, followed the Textus Receptus tradition.

8. King James Version (1611)
The most significant English translation based on the Byzantine Text via the Textus Receptus (Erasmus, Stephanus, and Beza’s Greek texts).

The KJV remains one of the most well-known Byzantine-based English Bibles

Newer Translations used the Alexandrian Manuscripts (sample version translations)

1. English Revised Version (ERV) – 1885
The first major English translation based on the Westcott and Hort Greek New Testament, which heavily favored Alexandrian manuscripts.

2. American Standard Version (ASV) – 1901
A revision of the ERV, still based on the Westcott and Hort text, giving preference to Alexandrian readings.

3. Revised Standard Version (RSV) – 1946 (NT), 1952 (full Bible)
Used the Nestle-Aland critical text, which leans heavily on Alexandrian manuscripts.

4. New American Standard Bible (NASB) – 1971, 1995, 2020
Based on the Nestle-Aland Greek New Testament, emphasizing Alexandrian readings.

5. New International Version (NIV) – 1978, 1984, 2011
Uses the Nestle-Aland and United Bible Societies (UBS) Greek text, which is based primarily on Alexandrian manuscripts.

6. English Standard Version (ESV) – 2001, 2016
A revision of the RSV, following the Alexandrian-based critical text.

7. Christian Standard Bible (CSB) – 2017
Uses the Nestle-Aland 28th edition, relying mostly on Alexandrian manuscripts.

8. New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) – 1989, 2021 (UE)
A scholarly revision of the RSV, following the Nestle-Aland 27th/28th edition and prioritizing Alexandrian readings.
