TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL MINISTRY

MORMON HISTORY ON DOCTRINE AND FACTS

We welcome all potential and present Mormons from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS). Here we will explore doctrinal teachings and statements as taught by the LDS organization. The Mormon Church emphatically believes that true Christian teachings were lost from the face of the earth until “restored” in 1830 by Joseph Smith the first Mormon “prophet.” He and the Mormon Church to this day declare all Christian churches to be apostate, abominable, and the “Whore of Babylon.” In this article, we will provide you with information that will give you a better understanding on what the LDS is built on (its foundation). It will equip you somewhat with the knowledge that even the organization’s “missionaries” do not fully know or understand.

We welcome any Mormon to contact us to dispute any of the facts that are stated in this document. It is our pledge at TTGM to recant any fact that is proven to be untrue in a heartbeat.

Special note on our approach going forward [Deuteronomy 18:22] :
We at TTGM try not to get tied up too much in the different doctrinal viewpoints. We go straight to the foundation of the organization. If the foundation of any organization is strong, it will stand. On the other hand, if the foundation is built on lies, it will not stand on the day of judgment.

The primary doctrinal teachings of the LDS came from one man by the name of Joseph Smith (a self-proclaimed prophet of God). Ultimately, the question is, was Joseph Smith a true prophet? We have done the research and found this claim to be wanting. May your decision to join or not to join (or even leave) the LDS be an informed one, as your salvation is too precious to give away to deception – [Matthew 24:5]. In the following paragraphs we will test the prophet, Mr Smith. If the prophet’s words were built on falsehoods, then the entire LDS collapses in the sight of God and man; again, how can a house stand without a firm foundation?

How it all got started:

Joseph Smith’s and the golden plates:
Joseph Smith, Jr., in 1820, claimed a heavenly vision which, he said, singled him out as the Lord’s anointed prophet for this dispensation, though it was not until 1823, with the appearance of the angel Moroni at the quaking at Smith’s bedside, that “prophet” Smith began his relationship to the fabulous “golden plates,” or what was to become the Book of Mormon. -see Pearl of Great Price (Joseph Smith -History 1:29-54). Read about the first three witnesses to the golden plates.

Extract from TKC, Dr. Walter Martin.

Quotations/Statements and facts from “a prophet”:
1. An earlier edition of Pearl of Great Price (Joseph Smith -History 1:29-54) identifies the angel Moroni as the messenger that came and delivered the Mormon “truth”. However, in a latter edition of the Pearl of Great Price, an angel by the name of Nephi was the heavenly messenger (an entirely different character found in the Book of Mormon).

Fact: If the book of Mormon was divinely inspired, why at one point in time there is a named character (Maroni) delivering the message and then in a later edition we have someone by a different name (Nephi)? Was the angel confused or was it Mr Smith?

The Word of God (Bible) has no such irregularity.

2. To date none of the golden plates (used to translate the “Book of Mormon”) have ever been seen by anyone other than Joseph Smith and three other witnesses (including Oliver Cowdery). Oliver Cowdery was “prophet” Smith’s first scribe to the plates, however, when questioned; Oliver Cowdery later admitted that he never actually saw the plates himself.

Fact: The Mormons claim that in the days of the golden books, people used to write on thin gold paper to preserve the written word. We challenge any Mormon to check history to see if there was ever at any time the use of gold plates/papers used to write “sacred” words (or likeness). There were question marks raised over time from the witnesses that claimed to have seen the golden plates. Read this resource website and follow up with your own research. You will find consistent discrepancies with these claims.

3. Joseph Smith said that he copied the characters off the plates by the means of the Urim and Thummim. In the book “Pearl of Great Price” (Joseph Smith -History 1:62-64, 1982 edition), Smith made the claim that a Mr. Martin Harris took the characters which were drawn off of the plates and took them to a noted Professor by the name of Charles Anthon. He went on to state that the professor noted that they were true characters referred to as Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac and Arabic (Section 2, verses 62, 63, 64).

Fact: If prophet Smith declares that the characters were confirmed by Professor Anthon to be Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac and Arabic; why then does the book of Mormon declare that the characters were “reformed Egyptian,” the language of the Nephites? Also, the language of the Book of Mormon was known to “none other people”, how then could it be conceivably possible for the Professor Anthon to have testified as to the accuracy of Smith’s translation? To date, no one has ever been able to find even the slightest trace of the language known as “Reformed Egyptian “

4. “Prophet Joseph Smith” went on record (Pearl of Great Price -Joseph Smith -History 1:62-64, 1982 edition) and said that his translation of the golden plates were confirmed by a noted Professor called Charles Anthon (Columbia University), a response was made by the said professor on hearing of his name being mentioned in connection with the plates.

Fact:  When professor Charles Anthon heard of this statement through a Mr. E. D. Howe, he wrote a letter to Mr. Howe to dispute the accusation by “prophet” Smith. – TTGM has the Letter Dated Feb 17, 1834.  Mr. Anthon emphatically proclaimed that he never validated the “reformed Egyptian hieroglyphics” for Mr Smith. Why would this “prophet” have to fake the validation of the translated “reformed Egyptian” or was it plain “known” Egyptian, or was it Chaldaic or was it Assyriac and or was it Arabic? As we investigated these claims on the golden plates it seems to TTGM that Mr Smith was the only “true” witness to these golden plates; we further believe that Mr Smith had a very exaggerated imagination.

The Book of Mormon references to cities and people unknown:
The Book of Mormon purports to portray the rise and development of two great civilizations. As to how great these civilizations were; well lets see some excerpts from the book itself.

– “The whole face of the land (Americas) had become covered with buildings, and the people were as numerous almost, as it was the sand of the sea” (see Mormon 1:7).

– “…fine workmanship of wood, in buildings, and in machinery, and also in iron and copper, and brass and steel, making [sic] all manner of tools…” (see Jarom 1:8 and 2 Nephi 5:15).

– …grain…silks…cattle…oxen…cows….sheep….swine…goats…horses….asses….elephants (see Ether 9:17-19)

(Heleman 3:8) (Heleman 3:14 see also 2 Nephi 5:15, 16 and Alma 16:13)

Fact: If the book of Mormon was correct in its historical perspective about these cities and people, logically there should still be large pools of evidence still around to support the book’s claims as is in the case of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the isles. See comments on Archeological Evidence.

The Contradictions and Errors in the Book of Mormon:
The BIRTH place of Yeshua/Jesus (The King) was in Bethlehem according to BIBLE.

1.       Micah 5:2 -Old Testament

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

2.       St. Luke 2:4 -New Testament

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born. 7. And she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

The Birthplace of Jesus was in Jerusalem according to The Book of Mormon

Alma 7:10

And behold he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God.

Fact:  No comment is needed, the deduction is obvious.
