William Luck
(b. 1947), Dr. William F. Luck, Sr. was born on September 24th, 1947 in Ponca City, Okla, the second son of the Reverend G. (George) Coleman Luck, Sr. of Augusta, Geo., and May M. (Myrtle) Heldenbrand Luck (RN) of Tonkawa, Okla. After 5 years of parish ministry in Oklahoma, his father received a call to replace Wilber Smith as instructor in Bible and theology at the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. With his big brother Coleman Jr., Bill and his parents lived for his first six months at 152 Institute Place (later Norton Hall) at the Institute located at LaSalle Street and Chicago Ave. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Heidorn Street, in Westchester, Illinois. In 1953, the family moved again, this time to Wheaton, Illinois, then known as the Evangelical Vatican, because so many Christian organizations, among them Wheaton College, had their headquarters in that city. The family was to live there for 50 years.
The Rev. William F. Luck, Sr. is a former Professor of Bible and Theology at the Moody Bible Institute. He earned a MA in Philosophy of Religion at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He earned an MDiv (and post-graduate work in historical theology) at McCormick Theological Seminary. After working for several years with Probe Ministries of Dallas, lecturing on major university campuses around the country, He was invited to teach at Moody where, for over a decade, he taught Bible and theology, including apologetics, Biblical ethics, Church history and the history of Christian thought. He resigned to become President of LodeStar Ministries, Intl. of Wheaton where he edited the LodeStar Review.
Rev. Luck was for a time the Pastor of the Itasca Evangelical Free Church and for many years an adult Sunday School teacher at the Wheaton Bible and Wheaton Evangelical Free Churches. He has been an officer of the Evangelical Theological Society and President of the Evangelical Philosophical Society. He has published numerous articles and reviews in Moody Monthly, Christianity Today, the Southern Presbyterian Journal, the Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, and others. In 1987 he published Divorce and Remarriage; Recovering the Biblical View (Harper & Row). He is presently retired and writing textbooks in Biblical ethics and commentaries on the Gospels for Bible.org.
