ON
DO CHRISTIANS ONLY NEED TO KEEP TWO COMMANDMENTS?
(Matt 22:36 [KJV])
Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
This paper is in response to all Christian brothers and sisters that believe that they only need to keep two commandments as stated in the chapter by Yeshua (Jesus) in the quoted verse.
In the following verse, what commandments is our Lord Yeshua (Jesus) asking us to keep? What you should know by now is that Yeshua usually responded based on what was already written in the scripture (Torah/OT). If ye love me, keep my commandments (is this just two or all the commandments of the Torah?).

Christians usually say that we only need to keep two commandments and they point to these verses.
(Mark 12:29-31 [KJV])
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
And also these verses.

Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
This doctrine that we should only keep two commandments is an ERROR and here is why.
Our Lord was asked, what is FIRST (Great) of ALL commandments? Yeshua quoted the first of all the commandments from here. It is written.
The number one commandment (First/Great).
(Deut 6:4-5 [KJV])
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: 5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Again, our Lord was NOT asked what are the only two commandments to follow, He was asked what was the FIRST? After He told us what was first He then gave us the second commandment. It is written.
The number two commandment (Second/Great).
(Lev 19:18 [KJV])
Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

Asking what is first and then interpreting it to mean the ONLY one to follow is a gross misunderstanding of scripture.

Last, when our Lord said to keep His commandments, He did not say, if you Love me, keep only two, one, or ten commandments. He said keep my commandment. This means ALL.

Conclusion:
All Yeshua was doing was highlighting or pinpointing the two greatest commandments of them ALL. He was not saying just do these two as the Many teach today.
