TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL MINISTRY

COMMENTARY

ON

SHOULD BELIEVERS DRINK WINE (ALCHOHOL)?

(Lev 10:9 [KJV])
Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:

Some believers think the scripture commands us not to drink alcohol. TTGM will examine this doctrine to find out what the scripture actually says.

WE EXAMINE GOD’S COMMANDMENTS THAT SAY NOT TO DRINK WINE/STRONG DRINK:
(Lev 10:9 [KJV])
Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:

TTGM’s comments on the above verse:
You will notice the verse comes with a condition. Do not drink wine or strong drink when you are about to go into the tabernacle. In other words, God does not want you drunk in His tabernacle.

—-  –^
(Judg 13:4 [KJV])
Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:

TTGM’s comments:
This verse refers to the Nazarite (Samson) that was to be born. The angel instructed Samson’s Mom to obey the command for a Nazarite (to be set apart). Whenever God commanded people to be separated unto Him, He instructed them not to drink wine or strong drink. It is written.
(Num 6:2-3 [KJV])
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the LORD: 3 He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.

—-  –^
(Prov 20:1 [KJV])
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

TTGM’s comments:
This verse was introduced to TTGM by a friend to support not consuming strong drink. This verse speaks to someone that drinks to the point of being drunk. A person that allows themselves to be drunk is not wise. This verse does not say not to drink, but rather it warns us what will happen if we drink excessively.

—-  –^
WE NOW EXAMINE VERSES THAT OKAY THE DRINKING OF WINE AND STRONG DRINK.
(Lev 23:13 [KJV])
And the meat offering thereof shall be two tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, an offering made by fire unto the LORD for a sweet savour: and the drink offering thereof shall be of wine, the fourth part of an hin.

TTGM’s comments:
Wine is used as a drink offering.

—-  –^
(Prov 31:6 [KJV])
Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

TTGM’s comments:
We are instructed to give strong drink to the dying. We are also instructed to give wine to people that have heavy hearts.

—-  –^
(Song 5:1 [KJV])
I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved.

TTGM’s comments:
The songs of love tell us wine is good for your beloved.

—-  –^
(Jer 35:2 [KJV]
Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the LORD, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.

TTGM’s comments:
The Rechabites were instructed to drink wine. TO BE RESEARCHED FURTHER BY TTGM.

—-  –^
(1Tim 5:23 [KJV])
Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.

TTGM’s comments:
We are instructed to drink a little wine for our stomach’s sake and other issues. A little wine helps in the healing of our bodies.

CONCLUSION
GOOD HERMENEUTICS APPROACH: The Bible is a legal document and must be looked at through a legal eye. The Bible has a King with a Kingdom, it comes with a law/commandments, and we are its citizens. At the end of this life, we the citizens will be judged according to the law of the Great Book (Bible) – at His judgment seat, for He is our judge. We just examined this doctrine on the drinking of wine with a legal eye and found that we can drink wine. However, due to the nature of the alcohol in the wine, it is recommended that we drink it in moderation. However, if a person is dying strong drink is recommended by God’s word.

Be blessed in understanding.
