SHOULD A CHRISTIAN JUDGE OTHERS?
(Matt 7:1 [KJV])
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
This paper shows conclusively why we can judge others.
We often hear Matthew 7: 1 quoted and we are told not to judge. This is a complete mistake and displays the ignorance that people have of the Bible. We are going to look at the full context regards to judging others as written in Matthew 7. You can read the entire chapter but we will only focus on the verses that help us to understand when we are to judge.
We are told by Yeshua (Jesus) we should not judge.
(Matt 7:1 [KJV])
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
But why can’t we judge? We are then warned about the beam in our eye. In other words, why would you judge someone that has a problem (mote) when you also have a problem (beam).
(Matt 7:3 [KJV])
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
So what must be done? Yeshua then tells us what we should do before we attempt to take the mote out of our brother’s eye. In other words, remove our personal issue (beam) and not be a hypocrite in attempting to judge our brother.
(Matt 7:5 [KJV])
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
TTGM: Remove the issue/beam/problem/SIN from your life first so that you can see clearly to judge your brother. If you have not solved your own issue how can you solve the issue in someone else’s life? If you are a parent, a supervisor, every day you have the judge matters that come before you. Ensure that you have solved or removed your personal beams first so that you can see clearly to judge. In conclusion, we must always look at the full context and not developed a doctrine from one verse.
Be Blessed in understanding.
