(Isa 4:1 [KJV])
And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.

Why would a man’s name take away a woman’s reproach (shame)?

This scripture is almost never taught in mainstream Christianity. TTGM will break it down and link it to the New Testament teaching by Paul the Apostle. We will approach it by breaking the verse down in bits.

“And in that day”

If you read the following verses in the chapter, you will see that this chapter is set in the future (prophetic – it did not happen then and it has not happened yet). Read on and we will demonstrate.

(Isa 4:1-6 [KJV])
And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach. 2 In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel. 3 And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem: 4 When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning. 5 And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence. 6 And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.

All the above verses are not past or present; they all speak to a glorious future that is to come.

“seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel:” ….

The above speaks to polygamy. For those not in the know, polygamy was sanctioned by God in the Old Testament; it was practiced during the New Testament and during the early church years. The Roman Catholic institution issued a law that banned the practice of polygamy in 1563. Even Roman catholic priest had multiply concubines. The priests were told by the head catholic to divorce all their wives and not to have anymore children. This verse shows that the practice of polygamy would again be “in that day” coming once again. In the below verses God said He gave David wives and if he (David) thought it was too little, He (God) would have given him (David) more (moreover).
(2Sam 12:7-8 [KJV])
And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; 8 And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.

“only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach”

Why would having a man’s name take away a woman’s shame? Let us look at what Paul says.

Paul makes it clear the head of the woman is the man. Not Christ and not God the Father.
(1Cor 11:3 [KJV])
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

Paul makes it clear that a man that covers his head dishonoureth his head (Christ).
(1Cor 11:4 [KJV])
Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.

Paul makes it clear that a woman who uncovers her head dishonoureth her head (Man).
(1Cor 11:5 [KJV])
But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.

Paul describes here that it is a shame for a woman to have no covering on her head (or shorn/shaven head); link Isa 4:1.
(1Cor 11:6 [KJV])
For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

Paul also describes here that a man should not have his head covered.
(1Cor 11:7 [KJV])
For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the MAN.

In the Kingdom of God there is divine order. Part of this order is as follows, a woman’s head is her husband. Any woman that goes before God to pray or prophesy with no head (covering represents her head – the man) it is a shameful practice. In that day (Isa 4:1) women would become aware of their shame and to correct/right there status they will look for a man to take his name (usually a man finds the woman). It is important to note that the ideal man would be one that knows God.

Spiritual explanation:
In God’s kingdom, when someone has a head, total and complete submission is required by the follower (Jesus did not want the cup, but He submitted and said, “not My will, but Your will be done). Christ submits to God (His Head), Man submits to Christ (his Head) and a woman submits to a man (her Head). If a woman does not submit to a man she has no head (no covering) and this is her shame. For a man to become a woman’s head she has to have his name and totally submit to him (man). Also, if a woman has to take a man’s name he (the man) has to give it; this is why the women are asking for it in Isa 4:1. When the man gives them his name, then are these women able to go before God with their reproach/shame removed.

TTGM Conclusion:
Just a further note, if a man goes before Christ praying or prophesying and he is submitted to another, God sees this as a covering that represents another (someone/something that the man has submitted to and made his “alternate” head – eg another doctrine, religious organization or god). However, with his (man) head uncovered before God, it represents total submission to no other (but Christ).

Important: under the old covenant the law was written on stones. Under the new covenant Jesus revealed that what was written on tables is now written on our heart. What is TTGM saying? A woman with a cover on her head is not enough; we are to be judged on the intention of the heart and not just the action. So if a woman covers her head and her heart is not right towards her man (she has taken his name but does not fully submit to him) it is still a shame for her to approach God.

So ask yourself this, when a woman presents herself to her head (man), does she go before him with her head covered or uncovered?

This can be a difficult subject to grasp, feel free to write TTGM for further clarification – info@truthgospel.org
