HOW IS THE BELIEVER TO OBSERVE THE SABBATH DAY OF REST?
(Luke 23:56 [KJV])
And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
People that keep the Sabbath have several approaches to keeping it. TTGM will show from the word how we believe it should be kept.
The commandment instructs us to rest. It is written.
(Exod 31:15 [KJV])
Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
The believers in Yeshua (Jesus) kept the sabbath commandment. It is written.
(Luke 23:56 [KJV])
And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
WHAT DOES REST MEAN?
Rest means not to work; as you would have worked in the six days. The Hebrew word for rest is.
Rest = H7677 שַׁבָּתוֹן shabbathown (shab-baw-thone’) n-m.
a sabbatism or special holiday.
[from H7676]
KJV: rest, sabbath.

THIS IS WHAT SHOULD BE DONE ON THE SABBATH DAY:
The believer should give thanks and praises to the most High (God); this is good to do on the Sabbath day. It is written.
(Ps 92:1 [KJV])
A Psalm or Song for the sabbath day. It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:
The believer should not do things on the sabbath for himself but rather for others; pleasure and words should be to the assistance of others (to God’s glory). If you do these things to God, you will be delighting yourself in Him (God). It is written.
(Isa 58:13-14 [KJV])
If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
We should give worship to God on Sabbath days. It is written.
(Isa 66:23 [KJV])
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
You can help a person or an animal in distress on the sabbath day. If you are going to someone’s aid you are fulfilling Isa 58:13-14. It is written.
(Matt 12:11 [KJV])
And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
It is lawful to do well (good/assistance/charity) on the Sabbath. It is written
(Matt 12:12 [KJV])
How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
Believers can teach and be taught on Sabbath days. It is written.
(Mark 1:21 [KJV])
And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.

THIS SHOULD NOT BE DONE ON THE SABBATH.
We are commanded not to kindle any fire on the sabbath day (this item will be explained shortly as to how it should be applied today). It is written.
(Exod 35:3 [KJV])
Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.
We are not to gather sticks (work) on the sabbath day. It is written.
(Num 15:32 [KJV])
And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
The believer should NOT SELL anything on the sabbath. It is written.
(Neh 13:16-17 [KJV])
There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem. 17 Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day?
The believer should not lift heavy burdens on the Sabbath day.
(Jer 17:21 [KJV])
Thus saith the LORD; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem;
Believers should not judge each other as to how one keeps the sabbath. It is written
(Col 2:16 [KJV])
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

HOW DO WE KEEP THE SABBATH IN TODAY’S WORLD?
In today’s modern world, the following questions are asked. TTGM will attempt to answer these questions in light of God’s word.
Should we turn on electricity on the sabbath day, as they are people working to keep the lights on?
Electricity has become a vital resource to our sustenance. We believe it comes under the heading of doing well. Similar to Israel’s army. In biblical times the army was kept at ready to fight any day of the week should an attack come from an advisory; it was doing well. They were people working to keep Israel safe. Today we have people working to keep our power on. And with this electrical power, let us use it for God’s glory on the sabbath.
Should we quit a job if we become a believer; if this job requires us to work on the sabbath?
You should talk to your employer. If you are in a health service job, you are doing well in the care of others and you should stay. If you are not in a care taking role and you are not allowed by your employer or by law to have the day off to rest, we recommend you stay in the job until another one comes along (God’s grace will be there for you). If you are in a job that only requires you to work occasionally on a sabbath and not by the rule, ask God to give you the desire of your heart, He will let you know what to do. No man has the right to judge you (Col 2:16).
Should we cook on a sabbath day?
There is nothing written in the law that we cannot eat or cook (without fire) for ourselves on the sabbath.
