TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL MINISTRY

COMMENTARY

ON

WHAT SCRIPTURE SHOULD WE USE FOR CORRECTION, DOCTRINE ETC?

(2Tim 3:16 [KJV])
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

This information reveals how believers should use the Old Testament (OT). It also shows how the early church depended on the OT to understand what things were true.

When we see the word SCRIPTURE written in the New Testament (NT) it is not referring to the NT BOOKS. Why? The NT books were written over a number of years (starting around 32AD), around 367-405AD a council grouped the books together as we have them today. Around 1200-1400AD the books were put in print. In other words, in the early times of the gospel message, there was no NT book to read or study from. All study was based on the Tanakh (Torah and the prophets).

In the early years of the Gospel message, there were these three books, each given a separate name in the Greek.

Scripture = Old Testament/Tanakh = γραφή graphe

Gospel = The first four books in the NT = εὐαγγέλιον euaggelion

Epistle = Letters = ἐπιστολή epistole

Also Acts and Revelation

So what is TTGM saying? The early TRUE church understood where to go to find what was true (whether those things were so). It is written.
(Acts 17:11 [KJV])
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures (Tanakh only, there was no NT) daily, whether those things were so.

The early TRUE Church knew where to go for doctrine, for correction etc. It is written.
(2Tim 3:16 [KJV])
ALL scripture (Tanakh only, there was no NT) is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Now the question is, after it was written, does the NT have the same authority as the scripture? Yes, it does. You will notice the two documents are separately mentioned (epistles/scripture) in the following text. It is written.
(2Pet 3:16 [KJV])
As also in all his (Paul) *epistles,* speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, *as they do also the other scriptures (Torah and the Prophets),* unto their own destruction.

REM: Our Lord’s disciples were all filled with the Holy Ghost and wrote as directed.

TAKE NOTE:
The New Testament is hidden in the Old Testament (Yeshua), and the Old Testament is revealed in the New Testament (Yeshua). The two books are the complete Word of God. And there is no contradiction between the two.
