HOW DO YOU FIND OUT WHAT IS TRUE IN SCRIPTURE?

 (John 14:6 [KJV])

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Today people would say, you can have your truth and I will have mine. Also, you would hear, it is okay to have your truth, leave me with mine. People that talk like this, do not have a clue as to what truth is. This paper will show you what truth really is and how to get to it using the word of God.

We must first establish what the nature of truth is.

-          Truth exists and stands on its own.

-          You can have many lies, but there can only be ONE statement of TRUTH.

-          Truth is not determined by perspective or emotions, but rather by irrefutable facts.

-          Truth is based on facts that do not contradict.

A comment from history:

“The truth is like a lion; you don’t have to defend it. Let it loose; it will defend itself.” - Augustine of Hippo

----  --  ----

Now let us look at the meaning of the word “truth” in the captioned verse (John 14:6):

Truth = G225 ἀλήθεια aletheia (a-lee'-thei-a) n.

truth.

[from G227]

KJV: true, X truly, truth, verity

Here is the dictionary meaning of ‘truth”:

Truth = In accordance with fact or reality.

Now we are going to examine a process that is done in the world every day and used to get to the truth.

THE CIVIL COURT SYSTEM:

After a crime is committed, the investigators start to collect all of the evidence (facts) for the case. This evidence is based on first hand testimonials, physical findings and time. In building the case everything is combined so that it is understood with no contradictions. Why must there be no contradictions? If there are contradictions it places the evidence in doubt. If doubt is introduced based on the evidence provided, it means that what we have is potentially false (untrue).

In summary, all the evidence collected must be explained so that there is no doubt in the minds of the hearers.

Four people see a car accident. When the testimonials are collected, all are different, but still true. One person’s focus is on the occupants of the car so he sees what happens to them. The other person is focused on the other cars on the road so he sees only that etc. The job for the investigator is to piece it all together so that nothing conflicts in getting to the truth.

GETTING TO BIBLICAL TRUTH:

The civil court system is not perfect but it is the best way to get to the truth, so much so, it can be applied to God’s word. We will give you one common example of a lie that churchgoers believe. Then we will collect the evidence (facts) and we will use logic to get to the truth (be the investigator).

Are you ready, let’s go; you will need to engage your mind at this point.

EXAMPLE OF HOW WE MUST GET TO THE TRUTH RE EATING OF Eg PORK.

Churchgoers are told that they can eat all meats (including pork) and they use the following verses.

(Acts 10:11-16 [KJV])

And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: 12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. 13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. 14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean. 15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. 16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

Now let us collect the evidence and try to understand it (without contradiction).

1.       Peter was a Jew and he obeyed the Torah (the law of Moses or God’s commandments or the first five books of the Old Testament).

Peter following the commandments is noticed here in the following verse, as the vision troubled Peter – it is written

14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

And here, we can see Peter is in doubt – it is written

17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean

2.       Peter knew the law and this is why he doubted. Here is the law – it is written
(Deut 14:7-8 [KJV])

Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof; as the camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you. 8 And the swine (pig), because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase.

Also, Peter knew that Yeshua (Jesus) said the law is not destroyed – it is written.
(Matt 5:17 [KJV])

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

For those of you that is not familiar: Yeshua fulfilling the law does not mean you can now transgress the law because of grace.
PLEASE; fulfillment does not mean you are now allowed to commit adultery, steal, be a false witness etc.

3.       Why would our Lord say to Peter to eat what is common or unclean (pig and others) when He knows the law forbids it; this can be the only reason why Peter doubted. But again why would God give such a vision and instruction?

The following verse is a clue. Gentiles came to meet with Peter – it is written.
17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men (gentiles) which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,

FACT: JEWS IN NEW TESTAMENT TIMES CALLED MEN THAT WERE NOT JEWS (ISRAEL) COMMON AND UNCLEAN. –Here is the key verse that ties in the relationship between Jews, other men and what was common and unclean (in the mind of the apostle) - it is written.
28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation (gentiles); but God hath shewed me (the vision in verse 15) that I should not call any man common or unclean.

The above verse 28 clearly shows that God knew that Peter being a Jew referred to non-Jews as common and unclean. So God used what is written in the law about unclean flesh to relate it back to men. God cleansed the men (gentiles), NOT THE COMMON OR UNCLEAN FLESH (pig and others). Peter understood that God’s vision was telling him not to treat gentile men in the same way as unclean flesh (ver 28 – “but God hath shewed me”). GOD DID NOT CHANGE HIS LAW ON WHAT TO EAT; HE CHANGED PETER’S MIND WITH WHOM HE COULD NOW COMMUNE (Jews and Gentiles).

4.       Peter goes on in Acts 11:4 to recount what happened in chapter 10 and ties in his vision with his meeting the gentile men.

In Conclusion: Based on the evidence collected Acts 10:11-16 is not about permission to eat unclean or common flesh, but rather it is permissible to commune with men of other nations that have been cleansed by God.

Final Summary: This example shows you how to collect the evidence and understand what it is saying without contradictions. When churchgoers form a doctrine based on one side of the evidence they end up with several contradictions.

WHEN YOU COMPILE ALL SCRIPTURAL EVIDENCE (ALL RELATED VERSES) ON ONE SUBJECT AND COME UP WITH AN UNDERSTANDING THAT DOES NOT CONTRADICT ANY OF THE FACTS (EVIDENCE). THERE YOU WILL FIND TRUTH. Here is where you find a common agreement and not what we have now. What do we have now? Many churchgoers believing different things and when you step back, all you can see is total confusion.

We pray as you study the word you look at all the scripture. Believe no man; know the Word (Yeshua) for yourself. You must work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Your pastor, priest etc, will not be standing beside you when you face our righteous Judge – it is written.

(Phil 2:12 [KJV])

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Be blessed in understanding
