COMMENTARY

ON
BE SURE OF YOUR SALVATION

(Rom 8:16 [KJV])

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE SAFE IN GOD’S SALVATION?

First we will list the requirements of salvation to be a saint (The Greek word hagios=Saint=Holy) and then we will show you who will not be saved (the dammed).

                                                                      ------------------------------------------------

THE SAVED (SAINTS OF GOD):

Our Lord Yeshua (Jesus) gave us three components for salvation.

The believer has two components (your side of the transaction to salvation).

Component 1: LOVE (BELIEF, FAITH, TRUST) IN YESHUA

Component 2: COMMANDMENTS

God our savior has one (God’s side of the transaction).

Component 3: The HOLY GHOST

Here Yeshua has listed all three of the components.

(John 14:15-16 [KJV])

If ye love me (component 1), keep my commandments (component 2). 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter (component 3, the Holy Ghost), that he may abide with you for ever;

What are the commandments? First, Yeshua was quoting from the Torah (as He did most of the time, eg. He would say, “It is written” or “have you not read”, or “it was said of them of old” etc)

Yeshua was quoting from here

(Deut 5:10 [KJV])

And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that LOVE ME (component 1) and keep MY COMMANDMENTS (Component 2)

And here..

(Deut 7:9 [KJV])

Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that LOVE HIM (component 1) and keep HIS COMMANDMENTS (component 2) to a thousand generations;

We will spend some time here because most evangelical preachers teach that the church does not have to keep the Jewish commandments. To be clear on what the commandments are; the Hebrew word for commandments meant they were found in the Torah. First off the commandments were given by God to the Jews/Israel; this makes them God’s commandments. Next, when Yeshua mentioned the word commandments, there were no New Testament books in existence. When Yeshua spoke, the people understood that He (Yeshua) was speaking about the commandments (mits-vaw') in the Torah.

Here is the Hebrew word for commandment from Strong’s Concordance.

H4687 מִצוָה mitsvah (mits-vaw') n-f.

a command, whether human or divine (collectively, the Law).

[from H6680]

KJV: (which was) commanded (-ment), law, ordinance, precept. (the word LAW is reference to the Torah)

Here the scripture confirms that the saints of God possess the two components.

(Rev 14:12 [KJV])

Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the COMMANDMENTS OF GOD (component 2), and the FAITH (LOVE) OF JESUS (component 1).

Now let us look at God’s side of the transaction. God gives us the Holy Ghost (component 3) ONLY AFTER WE LOVE AND OBEY YESHUA (keeping the commandments of the Torah = obedience to God’s word). The Holy Ghost is the comforter, teacher and it is He that will raise us from the dead. Only when we receive the Holy Ghost are we born again.

Many modern day preachers teach that after you say the sinners’ prayer, you are saved – Read Here .  However, due to the high rate of “converts” that go back to the world (estimates has it as high as 95%) and never return to the church of their “conversion”, we submit that they were NEVER saved. Why? God never gave them the Holy Ghost. This is why people testify that they would have said the sinners’ prayer several times but with no result or sense of change in their life. The danger is that they are told that they have salvation after the sinners’ prayer; this is an eternally dangerous place for a person to be in.

FACT: The Holy Spirt is only given when God knows that you are ready. He, God makes the choice. In other words after you have decided, you pray to God, but after your prayer God decides if He will choose you. Some get the Holy Spirit at the moment of the prayer, while others get it later in their walk (sometimes years later).

(John 15:16 [KJV])

Ye have not chosen me, BUT I HAVE CHOSEN YOU, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Back to our question: HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU ARE SAVED?

After you love Yeshua (component 1) , and keep His commandments (component 2) in FULL SUBMISSION, He God will then give you His Holy Spirit (component 3). Why? This is Yeshua’s prayer to the Father on your behalf.

When you have the Holy Spirt, He will let you know that you are a child of God. Also, with the Holy Spirit in your life, your fruits will show as evidence to others that you are a child of the King.
(Rom 8:16 [KJV])

The Spirit itself BEARETH WITNESS WITH OUR SPIRIT, that WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD:

KEEP SEEKING GOD AND HE WILL COME FOR YOU (TO BE IN YOU)

(John 4:23 [KJV])

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father SEEKETH such to worship him.

------------------------------------------------

THE DAMMED (THE CHILDREN OF DISOBEDIENCE):

The status of each person on earth in relation to being SAVED or DAMMED is found in the following verse ( Read Here ).  One group (sheep) will be told to enter into the presence of the Lord and the other group (goats) will be told to depart from Him. The first group, I believe are the people that love God (Yeshua), obey His commandments (the patience of the saints) and have received the Holy Ghost. The second group is told to depart from Yeshua (God).

(Matt 25:32 [KJV])

And before him shall be gathered ALL NATIONS: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep (the saints are in obedience to the commandments) from the goats (the dammed are in rebellion to the commandments):

Our Lord Yeshua says to enter into the Kingdom to the first group (sheep)

(Matt 25:34 [KJV])

Then shall the King say unto them (SHEEP) on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

To the second group (goats), He tells them to depart from Him. Why? They work iniquity.

(Matt 7:23 [KJV])

And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that WORK INIQUITY.

Yeshua gives the reason He told the group to depart, it is called iniquity. What is to work iniquity?..

Iniquity = sin = breaking the commandments = transgression of God’s law… These are they that do not obey our Lord’s commandments (component 2 - Torah).

(1John 3:4 [KJV])

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law (Torah, not only 10 commandments but in excess of 500).

The Greek word for iniquity from the Strong’s concordance

G458 ἀνομία anomia (a-no-miy'-a) n.

1. illegality, i.e. *violation of law*.

2. (genitive case) wickedness.

[from G459]

KJV: iniquity, X transgress(-ion of) the law, unrighteousness

So to summarize, if you say you love Yeshua/Jesus/God (as most believers say today) but you do not obey His commandments, you work iniquity and you will not be given the Holy Ghost. You will not be saved without the Holy Ghost in your life.

IMPORTANT: Many people today that say they believe in Yeshua do not teach or follow the commandments of the Torah

Note: If you do or do not follow the commandments, it affects your position in the Kingdom.

(Matt 5:19 [KJV])

Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, HE SHALL BE CALLED THE LEAST in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same SHALL BE CALLED GREAT in the kingdom of heaven.

We say it this way. We do not keep the commandments to be saved, but rather we keep the commandments because we are saved (and we love Yeshua).

Why the early church moved away from its Jewish roots of keeping the commandments of God? Watch the following presentation (the church moved from a Jewish Yeshua to a gentile Jesus - Watch Here ).
