This paper is in
response to all Christian brothers and sisters that believe that they only
need to keep two commandments as stated in the chapter by Yeshua (Jesus) in
the quoted verse.
In the following
verse, what commandments is our Lord Yeshua asking us to keep? What you
should know by now is that Yeshua usually responded based on what was
already quoted in the Torah. Visit
here to understand this comment (read section that is in Red).
(John 14:15
[KJV])
If ye love me, keep my commandments (is this just two or all the commandments of the
Torah).
Yeshua was quoting from here – see section in RED via above link for more details.
(Deut 5:10 [KJV])
- Torah
And shewing mercy
unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments (this is the Torah commandments).
Ask yourself this, if Yeshua was quoting from Deut
5:10 and He meant the commandments of the Torah, then what about the two
commandments in Matt: 22:36-40? (most people are taught that we only need to keep two
commandments – love for God and love for neighbour as thyself)
--- ---
Let us explain Matt
22:36-40 – Here is the question and the answer.
(Matt 22:36-40
[KJV])
Master, which is
the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love
the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all
thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is
like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two
commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Here is our explanation
as to why it is NOT only two commandments….
You will notice
He (Yeshua) was not asked which one or two commandments WE SHALL NOW
ONLY OBEY (He was asked which is the first and greatest – see Mark
12:28). If He was asked which commandment we only need to obey, we would
have agreed with the doctrine of only two commandments – but He was not
asked such. Our Lord went to the Torah/Word and picked out which is the
greatest. Again, He did not pick them to say that you can now ignore the
rest. In fact, He went on to say all the commandments hang on these two.
Again and again, all the commandments hang on these two does not mean we
can now ignore the rest that hangs on (so stealing, being a false witness,
adultery and the rest of the commandments in the law/Torah are now okay to
transgress; they are not, for it would be sin. Why? Sin is the
transgression of God's law/Torah - 1 John 3:4). Lastly, the word says that
our Lord fulfilled the law. One more time, Yeshua fulfilling the law does
not mean that we believers can now ignore the commandments that are written
in the law. All it means is that our Lord fulfilled or carried out all of
the things written about Him in the law. Why? To become the perfect
sacrifice for our sins. We appeal to your reasoning and logic.
Remember, Yeshua
is the word and he quoted from the word – here it is.
1st – The
greatest commandment is found in the Torah (not the only one you should now
keep)
(Deut 6:5 [KJV])
– Torah
And thou shalt
love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with
all thy might.
2nd – The other great
commandment is found in the Torah (not the only one you should now keep)
(Lev 19:18 [KJV])
- Torah
Thou shalt not
avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou
shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.
All Yeshua was doing was highlighting or
pinpointing the two greatest commandments of them all. He was not saying
just do these two as many teach today.
